Goings On and Such or Pictures with a Few Words

Hiking...about once a week
One more week of school. Really, how much gets done that last week??? Portfolios to finish and evaluation to schedule.
Quilting. I'm getting down to the wire. I can only imagine how the pregnant mother feels...
Art....mine. I draw with the kids. I think this is the best thing I ever drew. Makes me want to do more.
Planning for tonight. I host a group for middle schoolers with disabilities.
It's amazing how much more I like our basement since I added the works of the great masters. Ok, we also took our dilapidated couch to the dump.

Happy Saturday!

Spring

There's nothing like the first vase of cut flowers from my garden to give me a good feeling. We're plugging through the last two weeks of school here which aren't anyone's favorites. At least we will be finished by June 1. I'm looking forward to putting the school books away for a few months and settling in to some home improvements, a lot of afternoons at the pool and a bit of volunteer work for various organizations. Oh, and a vacation in there somewhere. We're talking about camping for a few days at Ricket's Glen. Here's a picture from the "manly weekend" there to inspire. Hope you are having a good spring!

Simple Woman's Daybook a day late

I'm feeling a bit melancholy and I'm not exactly sure why, although I do have some idea. I thought it might be nice to blog. I've seen the day book (link here) and don't always care to read what people write but think it is probably a nice journaling experience for the blogger. So....here it goes (ok, the day book is for Tuesdays but when do homeschoolers follow the rules?)

FOR TODAY
Outside my window... I hear the birds twittering as I do every morning. The garden is growing. My early spring blooms are fading and I see signs of the next wave: buds on the roses I transplanted last year and the spiky green head of a coneflower peeking through the foliage.

I am thinking... Too much. This may be the cause of my melancholy. On my walk this morning I was contemplating contentment. The wish that I felt that all was well and moving according to God's plan for our lives. This is what I seek. The discord comes in when I can't decide how to best live our lives here in this world while preparing for the next. Sigh.....

I am thankful for... a husband who works hard so I can stay home with the boys. A home that we adore. Children who are kind and courteous and a joy to be around.

From the learning room... We're working on writing today. We are definitely NOT good writers and it has been the hardest thing to accomplish with both boys. I am trying to remember that all good things take time. We work at a snail's pace to finish the race, but finish we will. No one is going to college next year so we have time to work on our craft.

From the kitchen...I'm brewing the second pot of coffee. I really shouldn't but I am. It is probably the only downside to waking early....I like coffee in the morning. I'm also prepping for supper. My husband decided a little over a month ago that he needed to eat healthier. He is a musician and his hands were hurting. I think it scared him. He did some research and found that the cause may be the food he was eating. So, I've been cooking and shopping differently. Many less carbohydrates in the house. He's lost between 15 and 20 pounds (wish I could say the same). So tonight....Indian Spiced Chicken with Spinach salad. Yum.

I am wearing...brown capri's and a multicolored t-shirt.

I am creating... a quilt for a dear friend who is due with her 4th baby soon. I've not been sewing much lately and really need to get myself in there and motivated! This one includes some hand applique' blocks I made years ago.

I am going... nowhere. My men are going on a men's camping trip this weekend so I'll have the weekend to myself. Wow.

I am reading...
The Nun's Tale, An Owen Archer Mystery (for fun) and Memorize the Faith by Kevin Vost.

I am hoping... for serenity.

I am hearing... That the boys are waking (as they should be).

Around the house...things are pretty much in order. Of course never as "in order" as I'd like.

One of my favorite things... my sunroom during these first sunny warm days of spring. I love that we can take our school books in there and study and look at the birds, squirrels and bunnies.

A few plans for the rest of the week: A fairly easy week of school, an orthodontist appointment for Nathan and a weekend without my men (I'm equally looking forward and dreading this).

Here is picture I am sharing...
We went to the Philadelphia Zoo two weeks ago and I gave Nathan the camera for the day. He loves the tigers and this is one of the pictures he took.

Well, this has been a nice experience for me. I can see why people post these daybooks. It really isn't for the reader as much as for the blogger. I highly recommend you try it.
