Cherry Crumb Dessert
from "the box"
1 yellow cake mix
21 oz cherry pie filling
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
Cut the butter into the cake mix until crumbs form. Reserve 1 cup. Press remaining crumb mixture into bottom and 1/2 inch up the side of a 13x9 inch pan. Pour cherry pie filling over crust. Mix walnuts with reserved crumbs and sprinkle over cherries. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes. Eat warm with cool whip or ice cream (or both....what the heck!)

How nice of you to send them on their way with a gift that will help them continue with what you taught them. They will appreciate the gift and you!
the cherry crumb recipe sounds delightful! thanks for sharing.
oh my goodness, you are so creative and with such little time to pull things off. i'm jealous of your follow through. :) that cherry crumb brings back memories of spending the weekend with my grandma. she would always make that for me, minus the nuts. i have found that it's wonderful if instead of pie filling you use fresh sliced peaches or nectarines and add a bit of flour and sugar over the top of them so that they make a sauce of sorts.
Oh Beth... it warms me so that you made the needlebook for the kids! I'm sure they will always remember your gift and cherish it forever!
Speaking of cherish... or 'cherrish'... I've been hankerin' for some cherry pie and your recipe is gonna do the trick. Thanks for posting it!
