The Book Whisperer

I've been really into this book lately. Of course, it is geared for the classroom but we are modifying it here at home. I'm having the boys read every day. Of course, Nolan reads constantly but for Nathan, setting time aside every day to read beyond school books is a chore. I'm hoping to make it less so for him. I'm planning on using their "books of choice" as our literature study. We'll talk characters and setting and plot and theme and conflict and resolution by discussing what they have chosen to read. I've also given each of them a tiny notebook to keep track of the books and may ask them to write to me about their books from time to time.

I can not say enough about The Book Whisperer by Donalyn Miller. I'm hoping to start a book club with a few families using her principles if time allows.
