I'm reading Rose Cottage by Mary Stewart. I picked it up at the library after reading a post here. I didn't know much about the author and thought the book was from the 1950's for some reason. No, it was published in 1997! This novel is so charming that I thought it couldn't possibly be recent. It is a mystery set in England soon after WWII. Click here for a brief synopsis. I think I like the book because it seems like a true to life mystery and it shows the character getting to really know herself by going back to her roots and trying to discover where she really belongs and who she really is. Of course descriptions of cottages and flowers and talk of gypsies and parsons and the HALL all make me giddy. I'm not finished with it yet but it has been keeping me from my sewing.....

Hi there! It's good to see someone discovering Mary Stewart! She's my absolute fave author. Rose Cottage was actually the last book she wrote--she is more famous for her books written in the 50s and 60s. Since you liked Rose Cottage so much, I'd recommend Thornyhold and The Ivy Tree. :)
I actually created a fansite for Stewart (let's see if I can get this html right):
Mary Stewart Novels
If you want more info on Stewart. :)
